Rolf Gérard was a German-born artist recognized for his contributions to painting, opera set design, and costume creation. Born in Berlin to a scientist father of Huguenot origin and the renowned Italian opera singer Mafalda Salvatini, Gérard's early life was marked by diverse influences. Initially pushed to pursue academic studies in philosophy and logic, he eventually found his passion in the arts. For a period he did designs for both Chanel and Dior packaging in Paris and later he became responsible for costumes and stage sets at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
With wide (5 cm.) hand painted and patinated gray-blue frame and light passepartout.
