Original lithographic poster with art by Pablo Picasso for exhibition at Maire de Vallauris in 1966. The woman illustrated in the depicted edging is Jacqueline. Printed in 1200 copies.

Jacqueline Picasso or Jacqueline Roque was best known as the mouse and second wife of Pablo Picasso. Their marriage lasted 11 years until his death, during which time he created over 400 portraits of her, more than any of Picasso's other loves.

Picasso first visited Vallauris in 1946, lured by the renowned pottery tradition of the region. The town had a long history of ceramic production, and Picasso's interest in pottery was sparked during his time there. In 1952, Picasso was given a studio space in the Château Grimaldi in Vallauris. This studio allowed him to work on larger pieces and engage more deeply with his ceramic art. Today, the Château Grimaldi is known as the Picasso National Museum. Picasso produced more than 3,500 ceramic designs, including plates, vases, dishes, tiles and pitchers.

The poster is framed with a hand silvered frame and with light creme passepartout.

Please note that the poster has a few smaller pin holes near the bottom corners as well as a slight discoloration.

H 72 x W 52 cm.
